Updated: Jun 18

On Wednesday the 12 of June 2024, the AIDC-EC joined a group of like-minded Youth Developers at the 2nd Annual Deborah Generation Youth Career Coaching event held at Abbotsford Christian Centre, in East London. The occasion established by Dr Sibongile Mandondo-Kentane aims to serve the East London community under the former Heartbeat Ministry International.

This non-profit company (NPC) funded through individual contributions, corporate grants, gifts from community organisations and proceeds from special events. It is through extensive volunteer participation, as an integral component of all programs by the NPC, and the support by the Department of Health (DoH) in the Eastern Cape, the NPC participated in impacting and influencing career development for young minds through various programs since 2008.

In 2023, drawing strength from its founding values of Resilience, Integrity, Excellence and Leadership, and its symbolic representation by a South African plant - the Strelitzia, Deborah Generation was established by a network of women who aspire to live a balanced and fulfilled life by discovering their purpose and strive to achieve their fullest potential in their career and family life.

Driven by the mission to share knowledge and skills that provide a foundation for a workforce that contributes to the needs of today’s marketplace and to a quality workforce for tomorrow; and to guide youth in their transition from the school system into the world leading fulfilled careers or business growth, this year's edition was attended by 350 learners,40 parents and teachers from around the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality (BCMM).

A total of 10 exhibitors and speakers from both the government and public sector participated at this year’s event, including Bumbingomso that mentors youth around BCMM communities.

Learners were equipped with knowledge and career options in;

· Radiography and ultrasonography

· Radiation therapy

· Clinical Associates

· Nursing

· Future Skills in the Automotive Sector.

The AIDC-EC was represented through an exhibition and an address of the learners by the Senior Manager for Future Skills & Sustainable Energy, Ms Odwa Sonqishe, who showcased future skills opportunities in the fast-changing e-mobility space. AIDC-EC found it opportune to further promote its youth programs such as;

•  STEAM Program for Grades 9-12 done in partnership with Nelson Mandela University and the Govern Mbeki Foundation,

• Bursaries offerings for Engineering and digital skills for EC (Undergraduate, Postgrad & Post Doc research) with Nelson Mandela University.

• Youth e-mobility training in partnership with Mercedes Benz in East London,

with uYilo and eNtsa at the Nelson Mandela University

• AIDC-EC Graduate programs, where engineers are trained in technical skills through Tier 1 or 2 of the automotive component sector.

•  The AIDC-EC Annual Engineering Skills Career expo in Gqeberha.

The AIDC-EC is looking forward to future collaborative opportunities with the Deborah Generation Youth Career Coaching as the need to attract more math and science learners into the automotive sector that is currently celebrating 100 years of establishment in the Eastern Cape. The next 10 years are envisaged to change faster than the previous 100, and present plenty of opportunities to partner with young and other like-minded organisations.

Here's to wishing South African Youth a thought-provoking Youth Day Commemoration on Sunday the 16th of June - as we journey into the most exciting era in the e-mobility space.
