The EC is dotted with 13 New Public Owned EV Charging Stations

Eastern Cape Government, Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT) and Automotive Industry Development Centre Eastern Cape (AIDC-EC) celebrate the successful rollout of 13 universal public-owned electric vehicle charging stations across the province.  The AIDC-EC embarked on this project as part of the boarder EV Strategy for the automotive sector hub, and the need to strategically prepare the province for the global transition from internal combustion engines (ICE) to new energy vehicles (NEVs).

The network of 13 electric vehicle charging stations is strategically spread along national routes, with the 47kW Autel charging units that charge from 0% to 80% in about 50 minutes; and the 150 kilowatts Wallbox EV charging units that charge from 0% to 80% in about 30 minutes – thus make navigating and charging across the Eastern Cape, swift and convenient.

The charging points are easily accessible and visible on following platforms:

✅ Rubicon Charge mobile app

✅ Plugshare

✅ GridCars App

The process for Google Maps listings is currently underway and will be communicated once the verification is complete.

The AIDC-EC is dedicated to creating an ecosystem that supports the adoption of electric vehicles and promotes a cleaner, greener future for our communities while also accelerating sustainable transportation in the region.
