Celebrating Global Women in EV Day

Today, 10 February, the AIDC-EC proudly joins the global community in honouring Global Women in EV Day. This is more than a date on the calendar — it is a movement to elevate the women driving the transition to electric mobility.

Why February 10th?

It marks the birthday of Edith Clarke, a pioneering electrical engineer whose ground-breaking work on power systems and smart grids laid the foundation for the EV infrastructure we are building today.

Here in the Eastern Cape, we are not just observing the transition — we are actively driving it. Our milestones in EV charging infrastructure rollout are the direct result of the province’s green energy policies and the decisive leadership of the Provincial Government, championed by MEC for the Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Ms Nonkqubela Pieters.

Under her guidance, the province is ready to lead the Just Transition in the automotive sector through its established strategic framework, ensuring inclusivity and sustainability.

The shift to electric mobility is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to build a fairer, more inclusive automotive industry.

Today, we celebrate:

- Edith Clarke’s enduring legacy

- MEC Pieters’ visionary leadership

- And all *Women in EV and mobility* who are shaping the future of transport.
