Eastern Cape, South Africa – The Automotive Industry Development Centre – Eastern Cape (AIDC-EC) has confirmed an adjustment to its wholesale tariff across its provincial Electric Vehicle (EV) charging network. Effective 1 July 2026, the tariff will increase from R7.00 per kWh to R7.50 per kWh.

This adjustment will apply uniformly across all 15 charging stations within the AIDC-EC network, located in East London, Gcuwa, Gqeberha, Komani, Libode, Makhanda, Maletswai, Middelburg, Nxuba, Port St Johns, Robert Sobukwe Town, Stormsriver, The Windfarm Garage, and Willowmore.

The revision reflects the anticipated national electricity tariff increase while ensuring that EV charging remains accessible and affordable. At R7.50 per kWh, the rate continues to be highly competitive, significantly below prevailing industry benchmarks, which can reach approximately R11.76 per kWh in other public charging networks.

“Our foremost priority is to enable and support the transition to eMobility and the adoption of electric vehicles across the Eastern Cape,” the AIDC-EC stated. “This measured adjustment is essential to sustain ongoing investment in reliable, high-quality infrastructure and to uphold the rigorous standards of the Eastern Cape fast-charging DC network.

At the same time, the AIDC-EC remains committed to ensuring that the cost of charging electric vehicles remains affordable and attractive for motorists.”
