Updated: 7 days ago

Empowering women, empowering industries – this mantra resonated deeply at the Automotive Industry Development Centre-Eastern Cape’s (AIDC-EC) second Women’s Day Celebration event, held in collaboration with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Eastern Region Branch. On Friday the 30th of August in Nelson Mandela Bay stadium, influential women leaders in various sectors gathered to share their stories, inspire action and foster a culture of inclusivity.

As a champion of economic growth, and development in the Eastern Cape automotive sector, the AIDC-EC remains resolute in its commitment to promoting women’s empowerment and leadership. This event marked a significant milestone in our journey, and we are honoured to share its highlights with you.

Ayanda Makaula, the Eastern Cape Region’s Operations Head at SABC took to the stage and ignited a beacon of hope, resilience and empowerment celebrating the unstoppable force of women leaders, and invigorated the day’s theme ‘’Inspire, Include, Impact’’.

In honouring the trailblazers, innovators, and leaders who inspire us every day. Reverend Ntombizine Madyibi, incoming board member at AIDC-EC, set the scene with her powerful opening remarks.

"Celebrating Women's Month recognises women as agents of change and social transformation. It reminds us to reflect on our achievements and challenges, mobilising support for women's development and accelerating efforts towards gender parity. Let's inspire individuals, communities, and nations towards gender equality and women's rights’’, said Madyibi.

This auspicious event brought together women from diverse backgrounds, united by their passion for empowerment where keynote speakers shared their journeys, highlighting resilience in the face of adversity, courage to challenge status quos and innovation driving social impact. The panel discussion sparked meaningful conversations about breaking barriers in male-dominated industries, harnessing technology for women's empowerment. Importantly, fostering inclusive workplaces.

Our dynamic panel consisted of exceptional women who shared their experiences and insights. They are:

Our panel of industry leaders shared valuable perspectives, sparking meaningful conversations and reflections. Here are the key takeaways shared by our engaged audience following their vigorous discussion:

·         Embracing Reinvention: Don't be afraid to reset and start over, allowing yourself to reinvent as many times as needed.

·         Lifelong Learning: You're never too old to acquire new skills or knowledge, regardless of background or social standing.

·         Resilience Matters: It's not what life deals you, but how you respond that shapes your growth and character.

·         Authentic Leadership: Lead with integrity, staying true to yourself and your values.

·         Inclusive Collaboration: Foster meaningful partnerships, recognising the strength in diverse perspectives.

·         Self-Care Essentials: Prioritise mental and emotional well-being to maintain resilience.

·         Breaking Barriers: Challenge societal norms and stereotypes, paving the way for future generations.

·         Empowerment Through Storytelling: Share your experiences to inspire, educate, and uplift others.

We recognise the power of collective action and look forward to more future collaborations.

At AIDC-EC, we believe that every individual has the potential to inspire, include, and impact. Join us in shaping a brighter future where women thrive by staying updated on our initiatives and events.
