Future Skills and Sustainable Energy
Background
Due to various changes in the automotive industry, we have to ensure academic programmes for tertiary institutions are in alignment to trends in the industry.
The automotive industry is undergoing changes in terms of drive train technologies as well as autonomous driving. In order to ensure our skills are aligned to this change, we are supporting young people in engineering studies to ensure we have the requisite skills for the automotive industry.
In the last few years the country experienced severe challenges in delivering energy to end-users.
This phenomenon loadshedding, has been detrimental to businesses. It is mainly caused by old power stations that should have been retired years ago, experiencing breakdowns resulting in manufacturers suffering production downtime.
The unit is leading projects that seeks to deliver outcomes to achieve the goals of SAAM 2035. Projects such as The Chair of Automotive which guides students to undertake research and academic projects in line with changes in the automotive sector.
Engagements with energy stakeholders are aimed at ensuring the production targets set by SAAM 2035 is not further at risk by promoting the implementation of new power stations.
